Sliders with Text

Sometimes many parameters have to be made available in a single window. Especially with audio synthesis software. Labels take a lot of space. Larger widgets are faster to operate. So how about putting numbers and labels inside sliders?

Slider Text 1

Several variations based on the fan-slider design of the previous post. With and without relief to see what impact it has on readability. In order of my preference (ascending).

The widget is meant to work like a slider (drag-able everywhere) regarding click-drag. A single click (release, no drag) would give it keyboard focus and allow editing of the numeric value. Double-clicking would make the text editable like in a text entry (allowing placing the cursor and making selections via pointing device). Middle click should be kept for making the slider jump to the current pointer position.

Your widget designs look very interesting. Exactly what we would like to use in GIMP in order to reduce the size of the tool options (see bug #122862).

Perhaps you should talk to Peter who is currently working on a redesign of the GIMP UI (see gui.gimp.org). He might be able to give you some more input based on the evaluation that he has done together with Kamila.
